E-ink (electronic paper)
The paper-like, front-lit display technology from e-readers — calm, easy on the eyes, and battery-sipping, but slow to refresh.
E-ink (electronic paper) is the display technology of e-readers: microcapsules of charged pigment that hold an image without power. The result is a screen that reads like paper, works in direct sunlight, and sips battery — an E-ink phone can run for days.
The tradeoff is refresh speed: animations ghost and scrolling stutters, which is precisely why E-ink suits intentional phones. A screen that resists rapid stimulation is a feature, not a bug, when the goal is calm. The Mudita Kompakt is the flagship example in the dumbphone world.
